Why Choose Lighthouse for ABA Therapy in Valparaiso, Indiana
Valparaiso is known for its walkable downtown area and inclusive community activities. Paired with sensory-friendly recreational options and all-abilities playgrounds in its extensive park and nature network, the city offers a supportive environment for families with autistic children.
Therapy at Lighthouse Valparaiso builds on the city’s supportive nature, focusing on one-on-one care and steady skills development routines that children can return to, day after day. Programs are shaped with families involved from the start, so those skills can be practiced throughout the day. We focus on building communication, confidence, and independence with steady progress that shows up where it really matters and benefits families and their children beyond therapy.
Valparaiso Autism Services
The Lighthouse Approach
ABA therapy at Lighthouse follows a collaborative, play-based model shaped by both clinical practice and lived experience. The original Lighthouse Center was founded by parents of an autistic child, and that perspective continues to influence how we deliver care.
- Each child receives individualized therapy in one-on-one sessions from a multidisciplinary team.
- Our clinical team includes BCBAs, SLPs, and registered behavior technicians working together throughout the program.
- We choose to prioritize smaller caseloads help the team maintain consistency and continuity with each learner.
- Beyond therapy, we also focus on caregiver involvement through regular check-ins and training in the home or community when appropriate.
- Enrollment and insurance coordination are handled with guidance from a dedicated outreach team, so families aren’t navigating the process alone.
Lighthouse Fusion®
Speech development is integrated into ABA therapy rather than addressed in separate sessions, creating the base for our unique Lighthouse Fusion program. This allows communication goals to be worked on throughout the sessions and carried forward into the rest of the day. Over time, that approach supports language development in ways that feel more natural and usable.
Diagnostic Services
Autism diagnosis and evaluations are provided at all Lighthouse locations. If you notice early signs of autism in your child, or you have any other developmental concerns, you can reach out to our dedicated evaluation team to begin the screening process. Early intervention with ABA therapy is always the best approach.
What to Expect During the Evaluation Process
Our team includes licensed clinical psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, and BCBAs, collaborating to make sure your child receives an accurate diagnosis and the best care. If you need help with documentation and scheduling, the team is also available to clarify and make the process clear and manageable.
- The process begins with a virtual parent interview led by a licensed psychologist or other qualified professional.
- From there, you’ll arrange an in-person evaluation with your child and a member of the team.
- During the visit, your child meets with a qualified BCBA or another licensed clinician for about an hour.
- Standardized assessments like the CARS-2 or ADOS-2 are conducted along with observations through play-based interaction.
- When the session is done, a psychologist will meet with you and your family to review the findings, explain the diagnoses, and answer any questions you may have about possible next steps.
